Your chat history cannot be backed up or restored on related devices such as WhatsApp on the web, WhatsApp on Mac, or WhatsApp on Windows. To back up or restore your chats, you must use your phone.
Back up your chat history
You can back up your WhatsApp chat history to your Google Account. Cloud storage in your Google Account is provided and managed by Google.
Before you start, make sure you have:
A Google Account activated on your device.
Google Play services installed on your device.
There is enough free space on your device to create a backup.
There is enough free space on your Google Account. You can see how much storage you are currently using and review your storage options here.
A strong and stable internet connection.
Set up recurring backups.
Tap More options > Settings > Chats.
Tap Chat backup > Back up to your Google Account.
Choose a backup schedule other than Never or Only when I tap “Back up”.
Select the Google account you want to back up your conversations to.
If you don’t have a Google account connected, tap Add account when prompted and enter your login information.
Tap Backup with mobile to select the network you want to use for backup.
Note: If your Google account backup frequency is set to Daily, your conversations will be saved to your Google account every night after the local backup is complete.
Manually back up your conversations at any time.
Tap More options > Settings.
Tap Chats > Chat backup.
Tap Backup.
Create an end-to-end encrypted backup
Tap More options > Settings > Chats.
Tap Chat backup > End-to-end encrypted backup.
Tap Turn on.
Create a password or use a 64-digit encryption key instead.
Tap Create to create your end-to-end encrypted backup.
Note: Make sure to remember your password or key as this is the only way to access your backup in the future.
Change the Google account associated with your backup.
Tap More options > Settings > Chats > Chat backup > Google account.
Tap Add account to add your Google account.
Follow the instructions to sign in to your preferred Google account.
Tap Backup and select a time interval to ensure that your chats are backed up to the new Google account.
Note:
Backup files can vary in size and may use mobile data. To avoid potential mobile data charges, connect your phone to Wi-Fi before backing up your chats to your Google account.

Backups include messages and media sent and received in communities. They also include updates shared on WhatsApp channels, but do not include media unless you are a channel administrator. In some cases, backup files may not include all previously viewed channels.
